A coming of age birthday wish.
Country, acoustic folk, folk-rock, indie pop.
One man band - a wide range of acoustic based country, pop and folk crossover music.
Story behind the song
Written for Kes James' 18th Birthday based on the greeting on the card from her Grandfather which simply said 'Stay Lovely, Be happy'. Normally a twelve string folky feel, I've updated/experimented with a reggae/hip hop feel with the music.
Lyrics
Stay Lovely, Be Happy
© Dai Crowther 2009
1.
May you always have a lifeline
To pull you to the shore
May you always know the path on which you journey
With a shining star to guide you to your door
2.
May you always have a friend to hold you
When in a crowd you are feeling all alone
May you always understand the force that gently moves you
And never regret the seeds that you have sown
May you never regret the seeds that you have sown
Chorus:
And I say – stay lovely, be happy, that’s all I ask of you
Stay lovely, be happy and to your own sweet self be true
3.
May you always recognise your sorrows
And never let you anger be denied
May you find your peace when conflict falls around you
And never let resentment creep inside
4.
May you always feel the sun upon you
Even through the darkest clouds above
May you find a spark of joy to brighten up each day
And never, ever, ever want for love
May you never, ever, ever want for love
Chorus:
So I say, stay lovely, be happy, that’s all I ask of you
Stay lovely, be happy and to your own sweet self be true
Break:
So take your dreams and make your life and let your spirit guide you
In all you say, in all you do, be want you want to be
You can be whatever you want to be
But please do this thing for me
Oh won’t please just do this thing for me
Chorus:
As I say, stay lovely, be happy, that’s all I ask of you
Stay lovely, be happy and to your own sweet self be true
Now and your whole life through
