I wanted to write a riff-based rock song, so I did (and the dogs in the neighborhood still won't stop howling). This is about as close to metal as I've gotten. The weird guitar sound is a Digitech whammy pedal (used frequently by Jack White).

Story behind the song
Some friends moved away and I was sad...
Lyrics
You were my queen and I was your dog A rainbow shining in the night of my fog You promised you would love me o’er the winter long Springtime came and then you were gone Long gone The bad times come and then the good times go So does your conscious if you even care to know You picked up my life and then you turned the page Are you going to write the epilogue of someone’s rage? You were gone like a shadow in the empty night Leaving me to contemplate the morning light Sunshine laughs at a love that went wrong It’s hard to sleep since you have been gone Goodbye sugar-coated Sunday smiles Now you sleep in the distance of a thousand miles You said that you would hold me up until the dawn Midnight came and then you were gone Long gone You were gone like a shadow in the empty night Leaving me to contemplate the morning light Sunshine laughs at a love that went wrong It’s hard to sleep since you have been gone You were my queen and I was your drink It felt so good you never had to think About the words of a superficial song You could never sing because you were gone Long gone Long gone
