Moonrakers is an Oxford-based multi-instrumental group playing Celtic traditional music and some original tunes and songs in the idiom. They play harp, fiddle, mandola, guitar, whistles and sing in close harmony with male and female voices. The overall sound is a rich texture of melody and counter-melody, described by BBC Oxford as an exquisite blend of relaxing music. Liz van Santen (fiddle) and Anna Lockett (harps) are both classically trained. Jon Bennett (guitar, mandola, vocal, whistles, bodhran) has recorded with several professional bands, produced three previous albums and is a published songwriter. Moonrakers play concerts, private functions and weddings. They can, through a special commission, compose a unique tune for a client. The bands distinctive sound is a sumptuous feast of unusual arrangements, ranging from the simple beauty of O'Carolan tunes to the more complex instrumental interplay of several dance tunes.

Story behind the song
I was leaving the north-east of England and wanted to write a farewell song for the many friends up there.
Lyrics
I stood on the Northern grey coast in the evening and watched as the tide shifted sands And there carved in marble-stained fingers of water, a ballad of shared hopes and plans And I heard many voices of friends and of lovers Of those who raised glasses and laughed With truth-telling wine, felt a heart-beat of time As years tumbled in from the past If this is a love song, you know that I've plenty to spare This moment will pass like the wind But the memories traced in the air The memories traced in the air When journeys were long and battles were won With no thought of power or glory We raised coloured banners, sang louder than guns Touched dreams in the fullness of morning And our children were told, there's no time to be old Blow away gathered dust, only follow The old men with fire, who still shout desire For justice today and tomorrow If this is a love song......
