Story behind the song
'So many reasons to sing this song. So much inspiration because of everything going on around us. The economy is down, but we can celebrate Black History Month, once again.
Look how far God has brought us --ALL of us! Look at the great things He has done! Because of God's tremendous and completely awesome track record --and we must believe in Him, He will surely take us the rest of the way. ...His wonders to behold.
This song can be found in several hymnals. It is hymn #412 in the African American Heritage Hymnal from GIAmusic.com
It is usually in the key of G, but I played it in the key of F, a full step lower, to accomodate lower voices... My favorite close choral harmonization is in the National Baptist Hymnal. But since there are so many refrains, wouldn't it be powerful to do 2 or 3 different harmonizations of the refrain in one performance? Of course, the verses are usually done solo by the lead vocalist --but not necessarily.
