Jerrieon LaTray McKnight (artist known as Jaye Cartel) was born on October 16th 1985. His parents are Raleigh Williams Jr. & Sheila Lorraine McKnight. He grew up in his grandmother's home in Candlewood Park on San Antonio's North-East side. Occasionally he would leave to live with his mother who resides in Sunrise (Sutton Homes) and even stayed in his father's parentsâ home on Como Street on the Eastside of San Antonio. Every since he was a child, Cartel had aspirations of being something great (as any normal child with big dreams and ambitious). Cartel was mostly raised by his grandparents, aunts, and uncles when his mother and father were too busy working or "in the streets". Jaye Cartel is very cool and laidback type of person. He told his grandmother when he grew up he would grow-up and make his own movies. He played football in middle school. "I told my dad I would be the first to play 3 sports." Jaye laughs, âœI'm going to play football, basketball, and hockey." Cartel dropped out of school after his 3rd year of high school (junior) and immediately started hustling. âœI'm pretty popular in my radius I guess you can say. My mama's sister introduced me to the game", Jaye laughs, "She was not proud of it, but I thank her for showing me a way to provide for myself." Jaye Cartel came about after high school âœSince I was out hustling and at the same time I was actually researching the true meaning of it.â Jaye laughs, âœIt fit me. I got Jaye from my first name Jerrieon and spelled out the letter âJâ like J-A-Y-E meaning Jerrieon Ambitious Young Entrepreneur. Yeahâ Jaye is always into learning more and interested in being awake. Jaye believes in knowing the truth and not sleeping in mental bondage! Jaye says âœI believe in The Most High, Christ, and The Holy Spirit Comforter. I read the BIBLE sometimes and other books like the Apocrypha KJV. I also read Strong's Concordance, Tanoak Jewish Bible, the Bible Dictionary, and Living in the Shade of Islam.â Cartel believes in every man around him being a leader or a boss. In other words, nobody is better than anyone we are all equal. Cartel had intentions on having a rich click where everybody is good, nobody is struggling or jealous, and all are âœkeeping it realâ. Cartel actually got into music around the age of 17. âœI got into hip-hop to better my situation. I felt like that's all I had since I caught cases, wasn't good at working 9 to 5 at least keeping âem. I felt like I was really poetic. I liked doing it and I felt like I could get big and take care of my whole family. No one really made it out of where I'm from either so that's a major part of my motivation.â Cartel and Antonio (grade school friend) then join together. "Tone, thatâs my boy, we recorded a full album titled âœG.A.M.Eâ (Game Ainât Meant for Everybody) under Hog Heaven Records with Black Sam and Chuck Jones", Cartel says. After that, Cartel & Tone (also known as J.D. Walker) went their separate ways. Cartel then ended up signing a contract with White Diamond Management & Yacksta Records with Darryl Bowser and Elaine Bowser. They formed B-Fam as a group collectively a group of four artists which consisted of Lancelott, Cash, Young Trace, and Jaye Cartel. They put out a mix tape titled "Bullet Proof Tapez Vol.1". After a flop and bad response from the streets Cash and Trace leaves the group forcing Lancelott & Cartel to recruit Stefeeze from Xclusive Entertainment. The new trio released a new mix tape called âœBullet Proof Tapez Reloadedâ. Stefeeze then turns his back and leaves the group as well. B-Fam now drops the best effort to date âœThe Cake Overâ releasing 3 singles and shooting videos for the songs "Fly like an Eagle", "So In To It", and "Sewed Up". Now Cartel is currently going solo and getting ready to release his effort period first and last solo record with single set to drop titled "Bandman Swaggin" and CD titled "Handsum Musik". This deal will be under Lucrative Lyfestyle INC. and under his current manager Hamlin Dalrio(Star Quality Entourage Management). Jaye says, âœI prove myself to be lyrical, work hard, and keep up with the times. I'm trying to make the game adjust to me. My goals in music are to let everybody know it's more than just Spurs in San Antonio. We Got LYRICS!! I want to eliminate all the fronters and fake rappers in my city. I plan on launching a clothing line and opening a clothing store. I would also want to launch some club events and other ways to generate money so I can retire early.â he laughs again.
