Soul influenced
Carole Allison, Singer songwriter driven, roots blues, funk, adult contemporary, roots, pop.
Carole Allison was born in a small town on the island of Trinidad where she fell in love at a very early age with the music of Jazz greats such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Eckstine, the Two Louis’s, Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan and a host of others. She was also strongly influenced by the breath of musical styles broadcast on the two radio stations available on the island at the time. Music from India, China, Classical and Country music one station, and soul, Pop, Classic Rock/Top 40, Calypso, Reggae, Parang, Latin, etc on the other. Carole began singing at a very early age, often making family members crazy by singing the same(her current favorite) song constantly Although she sang from a very early age, she did not pick up another instrument until she was in her twenties and she describes herself as a Singer Song Writer who plays Guitar, Bass, piano and percussion. She began performing in and around London, Ontario in the mid nineties and has established herself as a Jazz Singer with her Jazz band (Jazz Jazz Jazz) and as a blues singer with Carole Allison and The Sweetback Papas. In the last 4 years she has recorded three collections of original music. Come and Get Your Love (2004), Just In Case (2007) a love gift to the fans who come out to the blues shows, and Distracted (2007) a collection of songs from the “how do I work this into a genre specific show” vault. As Performer Carole has been nominated for both the London Music Awards and The Jack Richardson Music Awards in both the blues and Jazz categories. She has produced a Billie Tribute Show, a Gospel Showcase, and “But is it Jazz” a series of concerts celebrating the music of those who are often excluded from what we now think of as Jazz. As a songwriter, Carole believes that exploring all of the creative voices within and walking down musical paths other the ones you are familiar with, can only broaden your ability as a writer and performer. I love playing shows....and i have the privilege of being able to play with some really fine folks. I prefer to record my songs the old fashioned way, a record of people making music together. Happily new technology now enables us to take a page out of the Sun records book.....never mind the 'Click Track" one take baby. Yeah!!!!
