Lyrics
GIVE ME A CHANCE
Fair summer evening in a roadside diner, he sips black coffee in a corner booth.
T-bird pulls under the broken neon sign, a 1956, robin's egg blue.
She makes her way to the door; such a lucky door, such a lovely way.
Then cuts a swath through the smoke as her size sevens step to the rhythm the jukebox plays.
"How far to the state line," she inquired, tapping the counter with her keys.
Answer received, she turned to leave as her perfume mixed with the breeze.
He said, "Excuse me ma'am, but you forgot your keys." as he trembled like a leaf on a tree.
Then with a Cheshire grin, she replied, "Please, get in," and opened the door to his fantasy.
She pulled over to the side of the road, into an empty barn on Route 64.
The moon was bright, a star was fallin'.
Then she pulled him down and whispered, "Darlin', it'll be alright."
Then she said...
CHORUS:
Give me a chance.
Oh, and let me rock you, baby.
Give me a chance.
Oh, I wanna rock you, baby.
He woke alone, but getting her love was like getting a second chance at life.
He walked back to town, forever changed yet knowing he'd be alright.
Whenever times are hard, and he's down and out, like he's reached the end of his line,
He thinks about that fair summer evening, that beautiful lady, and about the time. When...
She pulled over to the side of the road, into an empty barn on Route 64.
The moon was bright, a star was fallin'.
Then she pulled him down and whispered, "Darlin', it'll be alright."
Then she said give me a chance.
As we grow older, life gets hard.
But you can't let it bring you down.
Hold on to all your memories memories.
But, memories are like a house of cards.
Sometimes you pull one out and they all come tumblin' down.
Now he's 20 years older, still spends his nights in that diner in the same old booth.
So one night, out of the corner of his eye, a T-bird passes by, a '56, robin's egg blue.
He Stares through his black coffee, like it was a crystal ball, and thinks back to that fateful night.
When over his shoulder, a voice from the past said, "Honey, let's go for a ride."
She pulled over to the side of the road, into that empty barn on Route 64.
The moon was bright, a star was fallin'.
As she pulled him down, she whispered, "Darlin', it'll be alright..."
And it was so right...
Then she said...
CHORUS:
Give me a chance.
Oh, and let me rock you, baby.
Give me a chance.
Oh, I wanna rock you, baby.
Give me a chance.
Oh, I gotta rock you, baby.
Give me a chance.
Oh, I'm gonna rock you, baby.
