Heavy metal with dub reggae overtones. What do you mean you can't do that?

Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
A tale of corruption and dark secrets Had a lot of fun with this - it started out as a doom-metal riff, which inspired the rather sinister storyline. As the character gets drawn into corruption, and realises that his "friends" are not what they first appeared to be, so I found the music changing and becoming something different. But the riff is relentless - our hero realises that he cannot break the circle. Forgive the pidgin latin but it just seemed to fit the mood.
Lyrics
It's not a secret society(!) No hint of impropriety. Come join us, all are welcome. Provided you're not one of them (Or one of them). One of us One of us One of us One of us We're just friends who help each other out. Isn't that what friendship's all about? And those indiscretions on the sly: We'll make sure we turn a blind eye. If you like to drink and drive, If you like to deal inside, If you like to fix your prices, If you like tax devices, Don't worry about the red tape (one of us) Don't worry about the judges (one of us) Don't worry about the press (one of us) Don't worry about the police (one of us) We'll make this a golden city With your hand on the planning committee. Make sure through friends and contacts, The right people win the contracts. Orbis amicorum (unus nostrum) Secreta nostrum silens restat Orbis perpetuus restat Unus nostrum But now, with all the names you know, We're in no position to let you go. Our secrets stay unspoken, The circle remains unbroken. What about the press? (one of us) What about the watchdog? (one of us) What about the law? (one of us) What about the police? (one of us) Round the circle disciples hooded. The sacrifice is blooded. Our secrets stay unspoken, The circle remains unbroken.

Holy shinola, this one is full throttle! Great drive and guitar work :) I'd agree with a little boot in the vocals, but they sound good. Liked the phrasing throughout the whole tune.

Lovely metal. Wonderfully done. Just the right mix. Percussion is tight. I like this type of metal!

Brilliant lyrics...this sums up exactly what I've experienced over the last few years. Really great vibe, very dark and sinister. Fantastic intro, excellent arrangement throughout and the whole concept is spot on. Definitely another station add!

Interesting intro, and then a great guitar driven rock song. I'd call this Rock rather than Heavy Metal, but I may be in a minority. Awesome guitar tones and riffs/licks/chops, or whatever best describes the playing. I love it (and I'm not supposed to be a 'metal' fan). Nice spoken section; spooky . . . Dare I suggest, putting the vocals a little higher in the mix ? Great tune Steve.
