Formed in the fall of 2007, Exebelle honors the folk tradition of storytelling through melodic songs set in an American roots music context. In September 2007, songwriters C. E. Wright and Philip Heesen conceived the concept of the band around a collection of songs influenced by the stories of everyday people and the musical heritage of rural America. After adding Kerry Hutcherson and Ryan Owenby, the group released their self-recorded and produced E.P. "The Skeletor Sessions" which finds the band in a stripped-down, acoustic setting. Recently, the band has been developing a fuller sound by incorporating multiple harmony vocals, pedal steel guitar, drums, and percussion at its live shows in the Richmond area and throughout Virginia. Exebelle is currently composing and arranging a crop of songs electrified by the energy of its live show and balanced by the warm, earthy tones of its acoustic roots.
