Story behind the song
I thought there was already a holiday song by this title, and I went out on the net to look for the lyrics for it. I got lots and lots of pages that described the tradition of the yule log, but never found the song. So since I had just read all sorts of stuff about it, I wrote the song myself.

Comes the time with the night fully grown And we all make our way to the wood To the old oak passed away summertime And cut it down to the ground Then we all carry back to hearth And we fetch last year's ashes from the bed We all gather round to light the fire To bless the new year ahead We keep the yule log burning We dream by the light of the fire And God will smile on our family We let the yule log burn We each take care to tend the fire For 12 days and nights it must burn To pass on the old and bring the year anew And for spring the sun to return And when the fire is finished We gather up the embers again And back beneath the bed To guide us to another summer's end
