Acoustic guitar and painfully honest vocals, sometimes funny and sometimes bittersweet, catchy and quirky.
Jim Testa is best known as the editor of Jersey Beat fanzine but he's also a singer/songwriter. Described by The Village Voice as "catchy, quirky, and lots of fun," Jim's debut EP "Songs My Father Never Sang" was released in 2002. His songs can be laugh out loud funny or bittersweet and heartbreaking. What stands out, according to rock scribe Tris McCall, are Jim's "surprisingly honest vocals, catchy melodies, and a penchant for brilliant couplets."

Story behind the song
I wrote this song after a really bad night at Brownies back in 2002, when I had to sit through three awful opening bands. The rest is self-explanatory.
Lyrics
Bad New York Band Words and music by Jim Testa Baggot Inn, Tuesday nights Nobody’s there, what a surprise You’re always at the same old haunts You get all the gigs nobody else wants Chorus You’re a bad New York band and nobody likes you You won’t go away but then again you don’t have to Maybe you have no talent or taste But in Manhattan there’s always a place For another bad New York band If you sucked this bad in Baltimore You’d be out of luck Lucky you live in Fun City where Bands are allowed to suck You’ve learned the drill Mediocrity pays Every Friday night At Kenny Castaways Even for bands who don’t have a clue If the Strokes can make it here, so can you Why is the drummer in a tuxedo? Looks like Huntz Hall but thinks he’s Jared Leto The singer is fat and ugly as dirt Oh my god, he’s taking off his shirt! Another bad New York band So you got a review in “New York Waste” They say you sound like Bill Popp & The Tapes When you get a gig, nobody wins Joey Ramone died for your sins The bass is flat, the beats are lame And all of your songs sound exactly the same When you get a gig - nobody wins Joey Ramone died for your sins
