Doo Wop Melody (Restored)
hought I'd share this with you from Back in the Day. This is the title track on Side 1 of the Band's Doo Wop-era album (not to be confused with "Doo Wop MEDLEY on Track 1 of Side 2). Continue reading below...
Jimmy and the Barbarellos began singing and playing in 1954, and is going strong to this day.
Story behind the song
I grew up with Doo Wop, and it holds a special place in my heart. The A capella intro, the the classic piano "da da da dum dum", and the three part harmony with bass and falsetto, define this song originally cut as a demo in a midtown New York studio during the height of Rock 'n' Roll.
Lyrics
(A capella) The words were magic, took me away.
I played them over and over, every day.
Theyre still in my memory.
And so, its hard to believe.
Its just a Doo Wop Melody, telling bout the way it used to be.
On the corner singing harmony, and Ahhh...
Its the door to your memories, bringing you back instantly.
With a shoo be doo, or dip dip yeah, it can take you anywhere,
(bass sings) Even though.
Its just a Doo Wop Melody, sung in three part harmony.
Bout a first kiss oh so sweet, Ahhh...
(Musical refrain) (bass sings) Even Though,
Its just a Doo Wop Melody, using words like golly gee .
So in love and just 16, singing Ahhh...
