This is demo recording of a new folky Christian song written by my wife and me. The gist of the song is that when things go bad we can turn to depression or turn to the bottle or we can call on Jesus.
tony dzik folk country
It began as a secular song about depression and then the first verse came to me quickly while I was driving in my car. Then the song stopped flowing and I put it aside for 6 months or so. When my wife I looked at it again, the rest of the words flowed.
Lyrics
VERSE 1
Everything changes, that's the way that it goes.
Nothing's for certain, life ebbs and life flows.
Lovers betray you, old dogs up and die.
You can drink yourself silly or curl up and cry.
But there's a guy that I know who's always at home,
Steadfast and loving, and true to the bone.
CHORUS:
Call on Jesus. He'll help you feel right
through the minefields of day and the depths of the night.
In the beginning and in the cold end,
Jesus is there, rely on your friend.
VERSE 2.
This garden is full of temptation and scorn.
Too many dreams die before they get born.
Money escapes you, your rivers run dry.
You can mortgage your soul or curse at the sky.
But there's a guy that I know who died on that tree.
He opened the door to save you and me.
REPEAT CHORUS.
BRIDGE:
Read on the Lord's work, old Matthew and Mark.
Reach out for His light, abandon the dark.
REPEAT VERSE 1 and CHORUS
