Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
This was written for the Coconut Blues Club "Russian" challenge, Jan '10 To me, Russian music will always mean the great Romantic composers of the late 19th century, so it was a great excuse to try out my new toy, GPO4. I decided to look for a beautiful image of old Russia to act as inspiration. I would urge caution against typing things starting with "beautiful Russian ..." into Google - the results can be diverting and often rather, erm, unusual, but eventually I found this fantastic picture of a 17th century monastery near the city of Novgorod. Once again massive thanks to Jude and Bobby at CBC for making us stretch just that little bit further each time and try some music we wouldn't normally think of. I dedicate this piece to my dad, whose passion for music is still as strong now as it ever was and probably inspired me more than anything else did (even though I'm sure he feels I'd gone over to the dark side when I got that guitar).

I know you're a great musician, but never expected such abilities for classical composition and arrangements. Dramatic rising and yet etheral soundscapes whistles and bells, stunning staccato cello bass lines. Beautiful string section and later horns ... woth a movie soundtrack No words nor enough stars....
