Contemporary band compositions, classical music arrangements, marches, jazz, symphonies, overtures. A collection from bands that I have played in throughout hi
Hello and welcome! "Symphonic Band Performances" is a compilation of recordings from several high school and college bands that I played in including the TMEA (Texas) All State Band, the TMEA Region X All Region Band, the Interlochen Arts Academy National Music Camp, the Cal Poly Tech Band, San Luis Obispo, the USAF Golden West Band, and recordings from my h.s. band, Beaumont H.S. and a few band recordings that were passed down to me. Also included are various All State groups and college and university bands. I participated and played in the large majority of these recordings. There are no professional recordings here and every recording is Public Domain. Most are available for free download. Each song has been converted from the original analog or digital source and edited with Audacity or Dak software. In the majority of these recordings, I play the tenor sax or alto sax, b flat or e flat clarinet, or directing. I was drum major for 2 years in high school, I have a BA from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where I studied music ed, composition and theory. I had about 500 more recordings I was planning to digitize and upload, but this past Nov. 20th, my home was completely destroyed by fire, and all the contents, including all my music and instruments. So, this is it. Please feel free to post a comment here or on my member page. If you like, please become a fan by clicking "I'm a fan" below.

Story behind the song
From the history of The Epsilon Kappa Chapter, Angelo St. University, San Angelo Texas In 1975, the Epsilon Kappa chapter welcomed the new assistant director, Dr. David Fennell. On August 20, 1995, our chapter experienced a tragedy. Dr. David Fennell, Assistant Director of Band and our chapter sponsor for over twenty years, passed away. This loss has left an empty spot in each of us who knew him. His warm smile, intelligence, his constant good spirits, and his continued loyalty and dedication to the ASU Bands, Epsilon Kappa Chapter, and TBS have been greatly missed. Even with this loss, our chapters have persevered and rededicated ourselves to the purposes on which we were founded. We helped financially support the commissioning of a piece of music in Dr. Fennells honor, the establishment of the Dr. David Fennell Scholarship, and have dedicated the funds of our Celebrity Charity Auction to support his scholarship and various projects for the band in years to come. Jared Spears is Professor of Music Emeritus at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and received the B.S.E. degree in Music Education from Northern Illinois University; the B.M. and M.M. in Percussion and Composition from the Cosmopolitan School of Music; and the D.M. in Composition from Northwestern University. Some of his past teachers include: Blyth Own, Alan Stout, and Anthony Donato. Spears has taught theory, history, composition, percussion and band on all educational levels, from elementary school through college. Since his retirement from ASU in May of 1999 (after 32 years of teaching), he has maintained a heavy schedule of composing and conducting. The most outstanding of his awards have been the Faricy Award for Creative Music from Northwestern University School of Music, Award of Merit from the Arkansas Chapter of the National Federation of Music Clubs, Outstanding Educators of America, International Who's Who in Music and Who's Who in the World of Percussion-U.S.A., Citations of Excellence from the National Band Association, Sigma Alpha Iota National Arts Associate, and several ASCAP awards. During his tenure at Arkansas Sate University, Spears received the University President's Award for the outstanding faculty member, as well as an appointment as a President's Fellow. To date he has produced over 250 original works for band, choir, orchestra, and chamber ensembles-a majority of which are published by American and European companies. His music has been performed and recorded worldwide, and he has conducted band festivals, camps, and clinics in Canada, Europe, throughout the United States, and has appeared at several universities as a guest lecturer.
