I'm normally inspired to write music by the vibe of the lyric and that's certainly true here. Heartfelt with a bitter edge and that feeling of helplessness.
I love the meaning behind this song, it made it easy to get a tune to go with it. Musically, I guess it could be considered influenced by Elton John or Bryan Adams, but it works in so many guises. It started out as just piano and vocal but has even been suggested for a DJ Sammy style dance version!
Lyrics
You were my dream
My one desire
Do you care? I don't know, maybe
This love affair burns like a fire
I wish I didn't need you baby
Though I know the truth damn well
You're always gonna be a liar
Your life is sweet, you make mine hell
You give your love
Then take it back
You fill my heart
Then watch it crack
Each day I swear
This can't go on
When you leave me every time
I tell myself, I'm glad you're gone
Until I hear you say you're mine
You smile as you walk through the door
You steal my love so free and easy
Keep me coming back for more
you give your love
then take it back
you fill my heart
then watch it crack
Why can't I stop this needing you
Just give me something, anything
This broken bird with wounded wings
When you're not here to see me through
Sometimes I hate you
When you're gone
I know I'm nothing but a fool
Is this what you planned all along?
To keep a slave, to sit and rule
You give your love on false pretence
Break in and out just when you please
Leave me weak without defence
you give your love
then take it back
you fill my heart
then watch it crack
