Story behind the song
.. From that point on the song, or I should rather call it an anthem, swirls in all different kinds of directions. Many different emotions permeate the song and its range is awesome. Despair and hope walk hand in hand, switching sides as they march into Metropolis. Underneath the music itself are layers upon layers of dark, ominous drones that strengthens the fact that the song can be percieved as unpleasant on some subconscious levels. At other times the song can sound almost heroic, in a 'hero with a dark fate, trying to change the inevitable'-kind of way. The militaristic sound that can be heard when the march drums kick in gives the song an authoritative feel, trapping the listener in its demanding web. Beautifully executed, 'Marching Into Metropolis' embodies the stuff that dreams (or nightmares) are made of.
