A song based on a poem "The Builder". It's more about the human condition than bricks and mortar. The recording is a few years old (2006) and has flaws, but I haven't been able to recreate the atmosphere in what have been less flawed versions since.

Story behind the song
In 2006 when I read the poem by my wife Sandra, and it's rhythm immeditely suggested it could work as a song. It was my first proper attempt at composing a song, as I am no good at lyrics myself.
I had just got my first multi track digital recorder and it was an opportunity to learn how to use it properly. The recording is a few years old and has flaws, but I haven't been able to recreate the atmosphere in less flawed versions since.
Lyrics
THE BUILDER
For many years he's built his tower tall,
Each brick with love and caer and pride installed.
'Til it is seen from every place around,
A fortress rising mightily from the ground.
Too many years a master craftsman he,
Until at last, the final brick laid right.
He found that lately he would strain to see,
Now withh the last brick shut off all the light.
**************************************
"I am in darkness now and shut around,
I feel my way along the tower wall.
Imprisoned by my own persistent pride,
Reduced to just a small voice trapped inside."
**************************************
For many years we have visited the tower,
And wondered where the builder might have gone.
Leaving this mighty tomb of might and power,
And a small voice crying where no sun has shone.
