Music does not belong to me. English lyrics do.
Story behind the song
Basically I took the Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid influences from the original, amplified them-- then made her a bird so she's losing her freedom AND her voice to be with the one she loves.
Lyrics
once there was a bird
then she evolved
and once there was a tale
then it became this song
she lived inside a four-wall world
within her cage she sang and twirled
she was all alone till the princling came
for that's when she cast off her shame
"Ne, Mama, I think I've found a love that's true."
Her keeper smiled:
"Congrats to you."
i try so when you fall and crush your hollow bones
i'll be the one to fix you
even though i had to brave apollo's zones
above the sun, i flew.
icarus won't reach for her
but her dream is not deferred
so the prince would look at her she burned away her fur
screaming, crying
wind on skin, it stung her so
the tumor in her throat did grow
and despite the fact that at night she writhed in pain
the fledgling prayed, oh
being there next to him
cooled the fire in her limbs
hearing him laugh at all her smiles
made her feel that she'd live to end her trials
though others came
lovely in face and name
they kept their hands intertwined
as if by design
still unaware that fate decides.
i try so you can spread the feathered wings that
sheild you from the world around
and even if i need to lance the tethered strings
with my own hands, i'll bleed till i'm raw
when you fall into another's sheathing bones
i'll grab the knife, see?
when i'm on the floor unbreathing
it will be your wound that saves me
"No!" cried the dying bird
"I won't," and that's the last they heard
so don't you say you know you what love is
until you die you're still in a cage
