Story behind the song
In Douglas Hofstadter's near biblical work of genius "Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid", there is a brief chapter with the title Contrafactus. It's a play on both Bach's work titled Contrapunctus (counterpoint or harmony) and the word contrafactum (a musical round), and is a story about a group of friends watching a new kind of television, which possesses an "alternate replay" button. Ultimately the parable is a play on the human imagination's unique ability to think of "what ifs", and what they tell us about how we think.
