A song written about our days in scouting. Acoustic pop.
Hey, this is Mister Chris, I'm the Advancement Chairman for a Scout Troop in the Memphis Area, Troop Ole97.
This band has formed to create an album to sell to our Alumni from this 65-year-old troop to support the work of the troop.
Those songs that are original works by me I am pumping up here onto SoundClick so that you can listen to them.
All other members of the band are Scout Leaders or Eagle Scouts themselves.
Story behind the song
Many years ago, when I was just a young scout, around the rank of second class, I went with my troop to a place called a018Land Between the Lakesa019 and, being a young and impressionable boy, remember vividly the scene of us sitting on a chilly summer night beside the huge lake, under the stars and the moon singing songs to the tune of my brothera019s guitar. Some of you may remember that night.
There have been many more campouts, and many more campfires since that time long ago and far away. Many more songs sung around them too. But for this young man, the memories formed then have stuck with me, displayed in vivid detail.
For those of you who have been in scouts, perhaps this song will encapsulate for you one of those a018moments in timea019 that you remember, around a fire enjoying the camaraderie of your fellow scouts.
Enjoy.
Lyrics
For Always
The darkness fled from the face of the moon
As the nightingale sang on the last day of June
While round a campfire, the scouts sang a tune
Theya019d remember tonight and always, always,
Theya019d remember tonight for always.
The moonlight spread diamonds across the whole lake
As it shimmered and sparkled in the winda019s wake
And the millions of stars in the sky sought to make
Them remember tonight for always, always,
Theya019d remember tonight for always.
For hours, it seemed, on the shore in the sand,
The scouts shared the fire and the songs and the land
In a moment, a lifetime, this brotherhood of man
Theya019d remember tonight and always, always,
Theya019d remember tonight for always.
Then the campfire faded, the moon sank low,
And the whippoorwill sang out, mournful and slow
And the scouts found their tents through the dewa019s silver glow
Theya019d remember tonight and always, always
Theya019d remember tonight for always.
