Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
Jeremiah 12:1-5. Jeremiah gets distracted by the prosperity of the wicked. The Lord basically tells him, "How will you handle the tough jobs I have for you, if you are going to get so easily side-tracked?"
Lyrics
(v1) Jeremiah was a tough man, who served God courageously. One day he asked the LORD, why the wicked have prosperity? But God knows a distraction when He hears one. So He asked some questions back. Penetrating questions, to pierce through doubt, and put Jeremiah back on track. He asked... (c1) How can you run with the horses, if running with men wears you out? How can you handle the spiritual, if the earthly makes you doubt? (v2) So you'd like a full time ministry? So you'd like to work for God? That will take more endurance than any secular job. For God will need more than your best. Heaven's work will demand That sometimes you do impossible, and you've got to believer that you can. (c2) How can you run with the horses, if running with men makes you tired? How can you handle a ministry, if you're going to be uninspired? (c3) Don't let the questions scare you. God's purpose is to inspire. Respond like Jeremiah, and let God's Word take you higher. (c4) Because you can run with the horses. You can keep up with the pace. Believing God's Word will make you a thoroughbred in this race.
