Story behind the song
While performing, I had a brain cramp and forgot what came next with “Star Wars.” The Mr. Ed theme song was in the same key and had the same lilt as “Star Wars.” It gave me time to get back around to “Star Wars.” Afterward, a listener asked me what the two songs had to do with each other. I quipped, “Well, think about what you’d have if Luke Skywalker met Mr. Ed – “May the HORSE Be with You.” Well, that happy accident has stuck with me ever since…
