Lake Fork Verne and his banjo. Original country and Americana songs. Songs of yesteryear, growing up during the great depression 1930's and the way things are
Just me and my banjo...writing and singing about how things used to be long ago in the 30;s and 40's and how those experiences affect today. I started out wanting to get on record these stories and songs for my grandchildren; but after doing it for a while, others have expresses interest so we are recording and putting them out there.

Rotating Pastures Copyrighted by: Verne Garrison Verne's Original Banjo Songs Vol XI October 25, 2010 Banjo tuned E, Capo 1, Key of D (5thString F) Back[D] before pesticides, [G] fertilizers and [D] such We would rotate pastures, to help [A] crops so much This [D] year a plot corn, then maybe soy[G]beans With [D] clover-alfalfa-pasture [A7] in [D] between This allowed the soil to [G] take rest once in [D] awhile Being renewed by clover alfafa pasture was the [A] style Milk[D] cows and calves were happy to [G] graze Adding [D] fertilizer in their natural [A7] sort of [D] ways This meant making or repairing a [G] fence line each [D] year I spent a lot of time doing just that with Dad [A7] so dear We [D] would dig holes for [G] quarter mile [D] run Line up those crooked hedge [G] posts in the hot [A7] summer sun Heavy leather gloves to protect our hands While stretching and stapling the barbwire strands Tamping the soil to firm the posts was the thing Wire was so tight when you snapped it, it would ring I miss those quiet days when I was a lad Listening the songs and poems composed by my dad We visited a lot as we worked along Now I am blessed to recall those times in a song
