Story behind the song
Saying good-bye a little too soon, and wanting to reconcile. Lyrics written in 1988. Music written in stages between 1999-2003 (see the demo version below for an earlier demoscene/Electronica version of the tune). I use a MIDI overdriven guitar in the low bass range for a "crunching guitar" effect, a technique I borrowed from the Doom soundtrack (the 1993 game, not the 2005 movie).
Lyrics
(Lyrics follow the synth choir) Verse 1: Left in such a hurry Thought it was over for you and me Never believed in us, and I'm sorry Thought I could find another To be my lover and I did, but she left me She left me all alone Chorus: But now I'm back Now I'm back to make things right I've been such a fool. Can you forgive me? Can you still love me? Can you please bend the rules? Verse 2: I lost it all when I lost you I know that your heart was true and I never meant to hurt you Give me a chance and you will see What kind of man that I can be I will never hurt you again Not like I did then (repeat chorus) verse 3: Left in such a hurry Thought it was over for her and me And I need to know if can she forgive me They say you can't go home again But they haven't been where I have been Sometimes you just can't win You can't win at all (repeat chorus, bridge, coda)
