Verse 1
It’s a cold December, I’m hitching the 401,
So tired my feet won’t slog another mile,
Guitar on my back,
No food in my pack,
No coke can to redeem an honest dime,
Chorus
Thumbing rides in the winter,
Ain’t a life for a no-name singer,
When the cold wind blows it’s hard to justify,
I think of my warm bed,
And smell mama’s ginger bread,
But fame and fortune coaxed another mile.
Verse 2
On the streets the cops will move ya,
So I found a beggar’s corner,
In my toque a solitary buck,
The carols from the store,
Blares on forever more,
The shoppers walk past me without a smile,
Bridge
I am a no-name singer,
Hoping for a break,
I am a no-name writer,
Rhyming for some bread.
Verse 3
Not in touch with the family
Not too sure if they miss me,
But I’m pretty sure there’s nothing in my sack,
Vancouver is way too far,
I’ve maxed out my credit card,
The 401 is the only way back …
