Steve Lieberman (born 1958) (also known as the Gangsta Rabbi) is a Jewish-American punk rock singer, musician, composer and producer residing in Freeport, New York. Considered an outsider musician,[1] "walking the line between insanity and genious [sic]",[2] partially attributed to his lifelong struggle with bipolar disorder,[3] he has commercially released 22 CDs as well as 38 cassette albums in the underground.[4] On all his releases, Lieberman sang and played all instruments himself. In addition to guitar, bass and beats, he added flutes, various brass instruments and a variety of exotics. He has shared the stage with Weezer, Andrew WK, Glassjaw, Ryan Dunn and the Misfits before retiring from performing in December 2011 to battle accelerated phase bone marrow cancer.[5] In 2009, Lieberman signed a multi-album deal with Jewish indie label JDub Records,[6] taking the place of Matisyahu on their artist roster. As of the spring of 2011, Lieberman, a town comptroller by trade, was "the world’s only orthodox Jewish heavy metal musician with a record deal", according to Newsday.[7]

Lyrics
In the days of our persecution Our Temple still stood on Mor'iah The occupying army oppressed us Derided us like a pariah. But the Hebrews, we kept on sinning all our iniquity fulfilled another adversary swoops down: their only mission : to have us all killed. (Chorus) This is the true story of Hanukkah No latkes, no dreidels, no la la la la la But the miracle of rededication G-d battling for His chosen nation. No holiday has become commercialer Can't tell if it's Christmas or Hanukkah We lost our way over the years How can we forget our martyrs' tears? On this Hanukkah. (Verse 2) In the days of our suffering our righteous ones were burned with fire we raised up a militia and revolted and defeated their evil empire. There was never any magic oil no Festival of Lights but Rededication of the Temple a victory history forced us to hide. (Bridge) "A great miracle happened here" The plastic dreidel told us all. but the Hebrews congregate on the Sabbath at the holiday sale at the mall. (Verse 3) it's our 35th era of persecution year '461 :2010 Scores of tyrants , since the Maccabean days sought our people's end. as you're spinning your plastic tops and eathing those greasy pancakes just remember ,for a moment, our redemption on the season in ancient days.
