Svartsinn is a musical project spawned from my yearning to create sad & dark music that could satisfy the sombre chambers of my soul, to create moods and states of mind for myself. It is the challenging journey to find dark atmospheres and moods through sad & dark soundscapes. A journey into a world where darkness is all and nothing. It can be emotions, a mind struggle or the imagination taking a journey to a vast land of tall desolate mountains with caves and thick, dark forests shielding us from the light of day. In short, the darkness is all around us or inside each and everyone of us. It's not the fear of it, it's merely where we want to be, prosper in darkness...Band/artist history

The name Svartsinn was just a name I used to call myself, but not really knowing what connection to use it in. It was the time when I was searching around for gloomy, dismal and dark/moody music. I stumbled across a few songs on an unnamed cd I borrowed from a friend and realized that this music was exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to create something like this myself since I did't know where to look. Hærleif of Northaunt gave me the computer software and showed me the path.

Late '99 I had 6 songs that was a story about some tough times and also a tribute to places I'd go to get away from it all. "Devouring Conciousness - demo" came to life and was self released. I uploaded songs to MP3.com and received a lot of positive feedback. Demo's shipped out in late 2000 and Mauro at Eibon Records got in touch which led to the release of my debut cd "Devouring conciousness"! Through MP3.com I got to know Frédéric Arbour of Instincts/Cyclic Law, he offered me to join the compilation Nord Ambient Alliance which I gladly accepted. This was the beginning of a friendship and also lead to the release of Svartsinn's 2nd album "Of Darkness And Re-creation". Cyclic Law is now Svartsinn's home. I have also contributed songs for a few other compilations and also some movies.I'm sure it won't end here!Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes, I recently played at a festival in Vilnius/Lithuania - Icetodiron, loved it!
Your musical influences
Well, I can't say I'm actually influenced by any similar bands. I just know what I like and what dark music should sound like to me.What equipment do you use?
Computer, sounds recorded outdoors (or anywhere I can find interesting sounds) and manipulated into darkness...and some keyboard tunes. (And acoustic guitar on one song so far)Contact
